Megillah Bible Study
Barbara McKoon leads the Megillah Bible Study Group. About 12 years ago, she wanted to be a part of a women’s Bible study group, but there wasn’t one at our church, so her sister insisted that she should start a group. Her sister purchased the Esther Bible Study by Beth Moore, gave it to her, and then said get a group of ten women to join Barbara in the study. Barbara did, and they've been meeting once a week since then. We meet on Tuesday mornings from 10:30 - 12:30 in the kitchenette, have breakfast, and then do a DVD-based Bible study. The studies are usually six to eight weeks in length. We generally do two per season, with the exception of summer. We do not meet weekly in the summer, however, we do try to get together for lunch a couple of times. This summer, we only met once and traveled to The Bulloch House in Warm Springs for a nice afternoon together. The group consists of women who want to come together for fellowship, Bible study, and to share what is in their hearts. There are currently anywhere from 10 to 20 that attend, with an average attendance of around 12 each week. The books for the studies run anywhere from $12 to $22, depending on the study. The women take turns providing breakfast, which can be as simple as donuts and fruit, or as elaborate as casseroles, grits, waffles, or any combination. We always have coffee and juice. We have a great time together while learning more about the Bible, how the Word relates to our lives, and how we can do better at showing God’s love and grace through the way we live our lives.
