Trinity United Methodist Church

Phenix City, Alabama

Established in 1872.

Brief History of Trinity

Trinity Methodist Church of Phenix City stands as a testament to unwavering faith and community. Founded around 1872, the church's exact birthday may not be known, but its impact on the community is undeniable. In its early days, the church was originally part of the South Georgia Conference of the Methodist Church and has since borne witness to significant historical events and personal milestones. The turn of the 20th century saw the church thrive under the dedicated leadership of the Reverend S.N. Tucker, its first appointed pastor. Through the generosity and vision of figures like Mr. Otis Richards, the church saw the installation of a notable steeple and bell that rang true to the community's solidarity. The mid-20th century brought remarkable growth and transformation for Trinity. Under pastors like Reverend E. Hilton Jones and Reverend R.J. Haskew, the church saw its congregation swell and its structure expand. Their tenure was marked by financial stewardship, evident in the meticulous renovations that graced the church, including a significant addition in 1947, when the church proudly hosted the Alabama Annual Conference of the Methodist Church. The decades saw the church face challenges like the Great Depression, where under Reverend Haskew's guidance, it emerged with increased membership and spiritual vitality. In the following years, the church continued to flourish, with the construction of educational buildings and the establishment of a kindergarten and nursery school. The narrative of Trinity is not just in its bricks and mortar but in the lives it touched. Notable members and leaders, such as Rev. Bilbro, who brought almost 300 members into the church with his inspiring sermons, and the various church members who served as stewards, trustees, Sunday School officers, and teachers, are the heartbeat of Trinity's long and storied history. Today, the church not only continues to serve as a place of worship but also as a beacon of hope and service, echoing the efforts of those who came before and laying the foundation for future generations. The legacy of Trinity Methodist Church is a rich tapestry of faith, community service, and unwavering dedication to its congregation.
